Dressing for Success
I recently just got back from a trip for school where we went to Nashville (city of my dreams obvi) and met with alum that work at some very reputable PR agencies, radio stations, and companies in general. Needless to say it was an absolute dream. I could talk about it for hours but that isn't what this blog post is about.. that is for a TikTok later this month.
Today we are going to talk about dressing for success in the workplace while keeping your own authentic style and staying confident. For me this is my number one issue I see entering the work force soon, bit of an exaggeration but nevertheless it is important for me to find the fine line between business casual for the office and staying true to myself. I find a lot of inspiration in my clothing and feel I work better when I feel confident in the way I look.
A staple for a confident wardrobe is a good blazer and tailored pants duo. Nothing screams "boss bitch" like a pants suit. I recently have obviously been finding inspo from people like Kamala, Michele Obama, and Beyoncé on the campaign trail as Election Day draws closer. You can be so versatile and creative with a suit. A bold pattern, and oversized fit, a cropped moment, I could go on. The power of a well-chosen basic is also unmatched. You can add a hot pink blazer over a plain white tee and be the most fashionable one in the room.
Another way to infuse your personality in your business looks is through accessories. Finding fun and unique accessories will always keep an outfit spicy no matter how basic. a fun beret (if allowed) or chunky statement necklace can change the look completely. It is also a great way to add your interests into what you are wearing, cute pins with your favorite bands or bag charms showing off your trinket collection can be a way to connect and make friends inside the office!
With all this being said, confidence is the ultimate style statement. If neutrals and flats are your thing and that makes you feel confident that's great. If neon colors and 6 inch platforms make you happy, that's also incredible. It is up to you and you alone to use self-expression to keep you confident in the workplace. Feeling confident will not only keep you happy, but will more than likely improve your work. Feeling good about yourself and your appearance will leave 100% of your attention to focus on your work, whether it is creative work or not, you will do better when you feel better. And you will feel better when you look your best.
So be the one to wear the new trend and inspire your coworkers to express themselves just as much as you do. Experiment, stay creative, and wear your look with pride.
Xoxo,
Emma
